Wings of Change is a youth-led initiative focused on restoring urban biodiversity through butterfly conservation and habitat creation. The project aims to bring together students, communities, and environmental organizations to protect native butterfly species and strengthen ecological balance in Delhi NCR. In partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the initiative is designing butterfly gardens across schools and community spaces using native host and nectar plants. It is the project’s mission, that these gardens serve not only as safe spaces for butterflies but also as living classrooms that help young people learn about urban ecology and conservation in action.
Beyond on-ground restoration, Wings of Change seeks to make conservation accessible to all through various elements like a volunteer-friendly primer guide to support participants in species identification, observation, and data sharing with national biodiversity portals. To deepen awareness among children, the initiative is also dedicated towards authoring a series of illustrated storybooks introducing young readers to urban wildlife. Furthermore, by equipping youth volunteers with Butterfly Buddy Kits and organizing expert-led sessions with WWF educators, Wings of Change hopes to build a sustained network of passionate, young environmental stewards who can inspire greener, more connected cities.
